Our Kampot pepper producer had a dream

Our Kampot pepper producer had a dream

A long time ago, her mother gave her a postcard that she received from her father: “Live up to your ambitions.” Our producer did his best to follow this simple but powerful advice. With the help of his team and his partners, he was able to make this dream come true:

Create a community living in harmony in a little paradise in Asia, while producing a superior quality product and respecting nature. Kampot's iconic pepper was a perfect product and the Khmer people were so welcoming that they couldn't resist.

Very particular and manual attention to this exceptional pepper:

With their local team of around twenty employees, he tirelessly carries out all the tasks necessary for the cultivation of this prestigious pepper: watering the trees, using groundwater in the dry season, removing flowers from young trees, digging holes to make way for natural fertilizer (cow dung), cutting the ever-growing grass to prevent insects from spreading and not forgetting the annual harvest.

Their manure consists of cow dung and bat guano. No pesticides, no chemicals. They respect nature by producing 100% organic pepper.

A strong social commitment

He first provides his staff with a competitive salary, health insurance, a monthly food allowance and on-farm housing. This commitment allows him to maintain a stable team with a balanced mix of young and experienced farmers.

Its social commitment is not limited to our local community. They have partnered with a professional Cambodian baking school located in Siem Reap, to which they donate their pepper to support their fundraising. The school trains pastry chefs but also provides jobs for local women who sow small bags of krama, which are then used to contain our Kampot pepper. These bags are then sold in different locations to raise funds which are used by our partner “Bayon School” to provide access to education to children in the region who cannot afford it.

Fair for Life

Our producer is the first company certified by Fair For Life in Cambodia. The Fair For Life label promotes an approach to fair trade that allows all socio-economically disadvantaged producers and workers to have access to a wider range of social and economic benefits. Fair trade is part of a broader context of sustainable development at the level of a region, and must enable the maintenance of the local social fabric, particularly in rural areas.
